| What is PET? |
|
PET is the short name of "polyethylene terephtalate" which is a resin, a polymer formed by the combination of two monomers - modified Ethylene-Glycole and purified Terephtalic Acid. Did you knew that PET was first time used in 1941 for fiber production? Only starting with 1970 PET was used for bottles production. 1 kg PET is obtained from 1.9 kg of crude oil with an electricity consumption of 23 Kwh. Electricity consumption can be recovered 55% into thermic energy. Basic structure of PET are molecules of hydrogen, oxygen and azote. Plastic material international code is 1 and it is used mainly for beverages, cosmetics and cleaning products packing. PET packing is very popular, beeing cheap, very light, shock resistant and easy to recycle. This qualities made PET a preffered material as alternative to glass. This lead to an increasing need of recycling. Recycled PET (RPET) can be used for different industries: textile, automotive, construction - geotextiles. Also, recycled PET with very low fineness can be used as artificial wool. There are sorts of fabric wich contain up to 100% RPET material. Did you know that you can use 25 bottles to have a jacket? |
